CGU, one of Australia’s leading workers’ compensation insurance providers, partnered with Velvet Onion & Friends to design a platform that supports injured workers throughout their recovery. With over half-a million work-related injuries reported each year, CGU recognised the need for a holistic approach that considers the broader impact of injuries. Our goal was to empower workers to manage their recovery by creating a system that integrates the various parties involved in the process, ensuring seamless support and communication.
Vision
The project vision for the CGU Recovery Plan is to put injured workers in control of their recovery. This involves taking a holistic view of the impact of their injury, considering what’s important to them, and empowering them to manage their recovery process. The goal is to create a platform that integrates all parties involved in the recovery process, ensuring that the focus is not only on returning to work but also on addressing the social, human, and organisational impacts of the injury.
Process
We conducted contextual inquiries, observing interactions between case managers, injured workers, and other stakeholders. Through design sprints, we developed a prototype and front-end assets that captured essential information without disrupting the conversation flow. The end result was piloted with case managers across Australia.
Results
The resulting platform enabled injured workers to actively manage their recovery, fostering a sense of control and support throughout the process. This innovative approach has the potential to significantly improve outcomes for injured workers and streamline the case management process for CGU.
